We are excited to announce that the College of Medicine, University of Nigeria recently received a Notice of Grant Award from the United States National Institutes of Health in support of an application submitted by the Center for Translation and Implementation Research (CTAIR) titled “Strengthening Research Administration Infrastructure for HIV Research in Nigeria”.

 

This 3-year capacity development grant award, which runs from September 2022 through August 2025, aims to improve the proposal development and grant management knowledge and skills of UNN research administrators and HIV implementation researchers. Specifically, the grant will train and mentor at least 12 core research and grants administrators (RAs) including five central team members and seven others drawn from the three institutes, four faculties, and select departments. The training will be delivered through hands-on workshops, blended online courses, and mentorship programs by a team of experts from UNN and University of California San Diego, USA.

 

When fully trained, the RAs will serve as trainers to train other RAs and HIV implementation researchers at Nigeria Implementation Science Alliance (NISA) member organizations.

The team led by Gregory Aarons, Ph.D. of University of California, San Diego, and Echezona Ezeanolue, MD, MPH of UNN (Multiple Principal Investigators) include Dr. Ijeoma Itanyi, Dr. Tonia Onyeka, Professor Chinwe Chukwuka, Mrs. Amaka Ogidi, and Mrs. Chioma Onu.

 

CTAIR is a dedicated research unit and a collaboration among the College of Medicine, University of Nigeria, the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital and HealthySunrise Foundation, USA.
